The Friends of the Library recently purchased a JFJ Disc Repair machine for the library. Our CD and DVD collections have grown considerably in the past two years. Now we will be able to repair and keep our media clean. This will help the items last longer and be of better quality for our patrons.

The Cornell Public Library would like to send out a big THANK YOU to Beata Schirmer, who is leaving us after serving on the Library Board for nine years. She has been the board president for over six years. Beata has always been a pleasure to work with and has been a great advocate of the library. We wish her well and appreciate all the help she has always given us.

The Cornell Public Library has been participating in grants obtained by the Cornell Elementary School. Our library took part in the 21st Century Grant for several years, and most recently the Jump Grant, which the After School Program has acquired.

These grants have provided us with over two thousand dollars each year to purchase additional media for the library. Our library has also been able to add two extra night hours to our library schedule through the grants, as well. This allows our patrons some additional time to visit the library. We are grateful to the Cornell Elementary School and the After School Program for including us in these grants.

The Cornell Public Library was awarded a "Books For Children Grant" from the Libri Foundation of Eugene, Oregon at the end of August 2005. Libraries are allowed to raise up to $350 dollars in their communities and the Libri Foundation will then match that amount on a two-to-one basis. The Cornell Public Library had a great response from the area when asking for help with the grant. The Northwestern Bank was the first to respond and donated the entire grant amount. The library received about sixty-five award winning, hardcover children's books through the Libri Foundation.

We also received additional donations which we used to purchase new books for the Juvenile Non-Fiction section of the library. We would like to thank the Northwestern Bank, Bank Mutual, The Cornell Bank, the Cornell SuperValu and Jane and Michael Grosvold for their donations to help us update our children's books.

The library added a total of one hundred books to our children's and juvenile sections, valued at over $1,300! We celebrated with an open house in January of 2006 to mark the arrival of our new books.

This was the second Libri Foundation Grant the Cornell Public Library has been awarded. We also received a grant from the foundation in August of 2000.

The Cornell Senior Citizens made a one hundred dollar donation to our library in March 2007. We would like to acknowledge them for their generous donation to the library. We have been seeing increased usage every year by our local patrons. Donations allow us to add even more items to our collection to help with the demand.

Our library recently received nineteen books, valued at approximately five hundred dollars from Rachel Gorden, of Lombard, Illinois, a consulting editor for ITI Books. The books cover a variety of computer topics including     e-Bay, iPods, Microsoft Vista. The Cornell Public Library was one of five libraries chosen to receive the computer books.

We would like to thank the following people for their donations of books, videos,DVD's, and money to our library in 2007: Claudette Taylor, Sam Johnson, Greta Breiby, Shawn Durham, Sharon Phillips, Peggy Brewington, Mary Kainz, Sonja Westerberg, Sue Jensen, Pat and Julie Kosher, Lori Groat, Ryan Jones, Cheryl Nyhus, Mary Jane Larson, Rose Schulner, Bonnie Newbury, Ramona Scharf, Eleanor Jones, Kathy Plahuta, Lawrence Garm, Bea Grinstead, Bertha Lega, Linda Queen, Sally Smith, Juanita Crosby, Bonnie Farber, Misty Ryan, Mary Jane Hrdlicka, Thomas Smith, Bonnie Farber, Juanita Crosby, Rachel Goller, Ashley Helland, Sonja Westerberg, Jane Hurlburt, Renee McCann, Jane Jackson, Linda Snyder, Tamera Bohaty, Larry Kluka, Mary Snyder, Donald Ash, Mike Rankin, Wayne Snow, and Chippewa Valley Pilots Association.

The Cornell Public Library received a number of donations in memory of Ida Hatleberg in late summer of 2005. The donations totaled over six hundred dollars and purchases were made for a number of areas in the library including large print books, children's books and inspirational books. We would like to recognize the following people for the donations made in Ida's name: Elisabeth Barnes, Ann Raid, Pat Lind, Dolores Barnier, Jim and Jeanne Barnier, the Steel Crew of the Union Pacific Railroad, Mary, Clancy and Earl Hatleberg, Diane LaDue, John and Ann Barnier and Nita Patten.

Mr. Duane Diamond, representing the Cornell High School Class of '46, made a donation to the library from his class. This donation and another one made by the Cornell "Random Readers" book club in late December 2005, were combined to purchase some new items for our collection in early January 2006. We were able to add thirty-five new books to our Inspirational fiction section, as well as, three music CD's and three DVD's.

The Friends of the Library received a donation in the fall of 2005 from John and Laurel Niemeyer, formerly of Cornell. The one thousand dollar donation was made in memory of John's sister, Mary Niemeyer, who graduated from Cornell High School in 1960. We would like to thank the Niemeyer's for their generous donation, which will be designated for a special library project in the future.
